The Gift
As the old farmer listened to the howling wind blow,
He knew it was only a matter of time 'til there would be snow!
As he sat there in his chair and continued to rock,
He thought he heard something that sounded like a knock!
He walked swiftly across the floor,
And with much effort opened the heavy door.
He was certainly shocked at what he found.
For, a baby in heavy blankets lay there on the ground.
This touching sight caused him to sigh.
And when he brought the baby inside it began to cry.
As he unwrapped the child he found pinned to his coat,
The following hastily scribbled note:
It read, "Sir, you are known far and near as a righteous man,"
"And I know I could never give my son the things that you can!"
"So, after much thought I decided to give him to God and you!”
"I pray that God will forgive me for what I must do."
The farmer's wife took the baby and watched o'er him all night,
Making sure that everything would be all right!
But, it was very obvious that he had been well taken care of!
So the mother surely gave him up because of love.
The farmer searched the next morning all around.
But, the snow had covered the footprints on the ground.
The next few days he searched far and wide with frantic pace.
However, the mother seemed to have disappeared without a trace.
Since he and his wife lived all alone,
They decided to raise the little boy as their own!
They named him Samuel and for short called him, "Sam!"
They considered him a gift from the "Great I Am!"
As time progressed little Samuel grew.
Then, one day when he was barely two,
He was playing in the yard and in the shadows dim,
Unnoticed, a young lady stood watching him!
She made no move nor a word did say.
She just bowed her head and walked away.
Over time, there were many such scenes like the one that day.
But, she never tried to approach him in any way.
Eventually, Sam grew into a handsome young man,
Who became a preacher according to God's plan!
One night as he preached a tent revival in town,
A middle-aged lady came in and sat down!
Several of the folks in the crowd turned around to see,
As they wondered who the lady could be.
"John three and sixteen" was the preacher's text,
And at the end of his sermon, the "altar call" was next!
He said "Please come to the altar one and all,"
"For whosoever the Lord our God shall call,"
"If they cast all doubt and fear aside,"
"Their souls shall be cleansed in Calvary's tide!"
The lady, weeping as she went,
Approached the altar to repent.
She cried, "Oh, God have mercy on me,"
And Jesus set her captive Spirit free!
Then, she slowly arose to her feet,
While in Christ feeling so complete!
She faced the young preacher and their eyes met,
In a moment they both would never forget!
He thought to himself "Do we know each other?"
Oh, how she wanted to say, "I am your mother!"
But, she just complemented him on the preachin' he'd done,
And walked away whispering, "May God be with you my son!"

Our Father Knows Best!
I am tempted to ask, "Lord, why, "
"Do the young and innocent die,"
"While the wicked live to a ripe old age?"
But, I know that how soon one's "journey" ends,
Without fail depends,
On when God pulls the curtain across life's stage!
Some must heed death's call in their youth,
But, my Friend, of a truth,
Each one of us is only dust.
And though no mortal understands,
God Almighty's plans,
We must in Him place our complete trust.
You see, God "who knows our frame,"
Can call each of us by name,
And He's the One who decides when we go,
To that Beautiful Land,
Built by God's own hand,
Where streets are gold and a crystal river flows!
Friend, this life can never compare,
To Eternity in Sweet Heaven Fair,
For our earthly life is just "the dressing room!"
Ah, somewhere beyond the Milky Way,
Lies a Land of Endless Day,
A land of no more sorrow, pain, or gloom!
